Prosperous Armenia Party: Constitutional referendum held at a high level
The constitutional referendum was held at a high level in line with all standards, Prosperous Armenia Party Faction Spokesman Vahan Babayan told reporters on December 7.
He said the alarms about the fraud and violations reported by the media and opponents of the reforms are gossips. "I give high priority to the facts and data fixed by the Central Electoral Commission. The rest is empty statements and rumors," he said.
To note, quite recently the Prosperous Armenia Party was a radical opponent of the constitutional reforms and it even stressed the need to shift the power, which initiated the reforms. This resulted in a conflict between the republic's leadership and the PAP leader Gagik Tsarukyan and the latter's withdrawal from the mainstream politics. Right after that the PAP sharply changed its stand on the draft constitutional reforms and started advocating the reforms.
To note, by the preliminary data of the Central Electoral Commission of Armenia, 63.35% or 825,851 citizens of Armenia voted "for" the constitutional reforms, with 421,600 citizens or 32.35% voting "against". 53,332 ballots were declared invalid. The turnout was 50.51% (1,303,466 citizens).
