YEREVAN, 9 September. /ARKA/. Iran clearly expresses its opposition to any border changes that contradict the political independence of countries and opposes international border changes, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Nasser Kanani said./pp 'The issue of the fictitious ‘Zangezur Corridor’ has become a subject of attention in recent days. The news and analyses published about the Caucasus and the claimed corridors are based on Mr Putin's trip to Baku, Russian Foreign Minister Lavrov's interview and statements of the Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson,’ Kanani said at a press briefing, IRNA reported./pp
He said these facts and statements have created a basis for putting forward various theories, some of which contradict the development of relations with Iran, and the exact text of these statements should be referred to./pp
We will continue to support the lifting of the blockade on communications and routes in the region and the promotion of the peace agenda between Baku and Yerevan. Peace in the Caucasus is beneficial to all countries in the region. Some powers outside the region want to turn the Caucasus into an unstable region and their priority is not peace,’ Kanani said./pp
He said Iran strongly supports strengthening the regional co-operation mechanism based on the existing 3+3 model, adding that meetings have already been held on the issue and another one is to be held./pp
Iran supports peace and stability in the South Caucasus and we welcome the lifting of the blockade on communication lines under the sovereignty of the regional countries. This structure can help in promoting peace in the region,’ Kanani noted. -0-/p
