University land transfer gets listed for debate; Front Harsien ODZ objects to land transfers

A parliamentary committee will today debate the transfer of government property to the American University of Malta, which, as far as is known, has not yet been granted a licence to operate as a university on the island.
Members of the National Audit Office Accounts Committee were only provided with relevant documentation about the transfer late yesterday evening, the Times of Malta is informed.
MPs sitting on the committee got to know of the agenda of today’s meeting on Monday evening. The agenda includes the transfer of the Old Medical School and land transfers to the Mellieħa Football Club and to the AUM.
On Monday, when the MPs received the documentation relating to the Old Medical School, there were still no documents related to the other two transfers.

In May, the government announced that it had signed a deal with Sadeen Group to construct a private university over 90,000 square metres of undeveloped land at Żonqor Point, Marsascala.
Following a storm of protest, the Prime Minister said in August that the campus of this institution was to be split to include a site alongside Dock 1 in Cospicua and a reduced site at Żonqor.
