IDeA presented book-albums devoted to St. Gevorg Church
The book-albums were published by Initiatives for Development of Armenia (IDeA) Foundation within the project for reconstruction of Saint Gevorg Church in Tbilisi, which is the Cathedral Church of Georgian Diocese of the Armenian Apostolic Church.
“Originally, the books were meant for being gifted to the reconstruction project donors but IDeA Foundation decided to hand over certain number of hard copies to libraries in Yerevan and marzes, and some items will also be available in bookstores. All the three books symbolize the shared cultural values of the Armenian and Georgian peoples”, said Deputy CEO of IDeA Foundation Sergey Tantushyan.

“The publication of the books was important and I would like to thank for it. While reading the books I realized that mutual love, understanding and support in our relations has no other alternative. I was also pleased to see young artists’ works featured in “Shushanik, the Queen of Kartli” book”, noted Advisor to Georgian Ambassador to Armenia for Cultural Affairs Nino Apitsauri.
“Shushanik, the Queen of Kartli” album is dedicated to the hagiography of Saint Shushanik, Vardan Mamikonyan’s daughter, who as a wife of Georgian bdeshkh Varsken, went through all the hurdles and tortures inflicted upon Christian Armenia and Georgia on the path of preserving their faith and self-identity.

Upon the suggestion of the authors of the book-album, students of National Center of Aesthetics and E. Giorgadze Children’s Gallery of Georgia as well as young artists of Artsakh depicted Shushanik’s biography through colors and paintings which were featured in the album.
“Sayat-Nova: Poetry” album is quite unique in this regard: the decoration and paintings “created” the atmosphere of old Tiflis.
The third, “Surb Gevorg Cathedral: Frescoes” album comprises the frescoes of Saint Gevorg Church created by various generations of Hovnatanyans, Gevorg Bashinjaghyan and other anonymous painters and can be truly considered valuable pieces of Armenian monumental painting.

“Within Saint Gevorg Church Reconstruction Project, the frescoes were also restored; one may not only admire them by visiting the Cathedral but also by buying these exquisite and unique books. Publication of the high-quality albums was possible owing to the joint efforts of Armenian, Georgian and English editors and designers and we are thankful to them for their contribution”, said Eleonora Malkhasyan, Cultural Programs Manager and Project Manager of the books publication at IDeA Foundation.
