Organizers of the annual Multi-sports pre-season tournament, Multi-Sports International, have announced January 10, as the kick-off date for the fourth edition of the tournament with Delta state playing host to the event.
In a statement made available to
Naij.com, coordinator of the tournament, John Tata, said the week-long football competition would feature twelve teams who will be competing for the star prize of Five hundred thousand Naira (N500,000).
He said:“Lagos hosted the first two editions of the tournament while we were at Ibadan for the third edition. This year, we decided to take it to Delta state in honour of the state governor, Dr, Ifeanyi Okowa, and we have renamed the tournament Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa pre-season football championships.
“The teams will play round robin games with two teams emerging from each centre and then progress to the semifinals. The winner will take home the sum of N500,000 while the runners up will be given N200,000 for their effort. The two finalist will also be entitled to a set of jerseys from lotto.”
The competitions will feature twelve teams of Shooting stars, Dolphins FC, Sharks FC of Port Harcourt, Warri wolves, Delta stars, Rangers of Enugu, Heartland of Owerri, Sunshine stars of Akure and Ikorodu united of Lagos. Others are First Bank, Yobo FC and My People football club.
The twelve teams would be fighting to dethrone defending champions of the tournament, Shooting Stars of Ibadan, who won the last edition in Ibadan.
