Two gunned down in Bonteheuwel
Two more people have been shot in Bonteheuwel after a spate of attacks in recent months.
|||Cape Town - Two more people have been shot in Bonteheuwel after a spate of attacks in the area in the past few months. This time one man was killed and another is in a critical condition.
Police spokesman Captain FC Van Wyk said the circumstances surrounding the shooting incident Wednesday night on the corner of Bonteheuwel and Bluegum streets, in which a 23-year-old man was fatally wounded and a 20-year-old man was injured, were under investigation. “The 23-year-old victim died on the scene due to injuries sustained and the injured 20-year-old was taken to a nearby hospital for medical treatment.”
He said no arrest had been made yet.
Bishop Lavis Community Police Forum Graham Lindhorst said:
“At the moment we can’t say for sure if the incident was linked to any gangs, because the two people that were shot do not appear to belong to any gangs. But the people who shot them might be part of a gang.”
Last month, a similar incident took place in Bonteheuwel where two men were shot, with one dying on the scene and another taken to hospital.
Police confirmed the shooting in Prunus Street, saying they found two victims with gunshot wounds on arrival at the scene.
Lindhorst said the shootings which happened last month were almost certainly gang related because the people were shot execution style.
“Gang activities have flared up in the past three months in Bonteheuwel. Police have been trying to fight it but without enough resources they are fighting a losing battle.”
