Sixteen years after the gang rape and murder of Valencia Farmer, the fourth suspect allegedly intends to plead guilty.
|||Cape Town - Sixteen years after the brutal gang rape and murder of teen Valencia Farmer, the fourth and final suspect allegedly intends to plead guilty.
Elmario Maasdorp made a brief appearance at the Blue Down Regional Court on Thursday.
The 36-year-old is facing rape and murder charges for the murder of 14-year-old Valencia back in 1999.
The teenager was lured into an abandoned house in Eerste River where she was raped, stabbed over 50 times, and had her throat slit.
Six men were initially arrested, including Maasdorp who was 21-years-old at the time, but only three of the suspects were convicted and sentenced.
Glenville Faro and Franklyn Roberts were sentenced to two life sentences, while Russel van Wyk, who was 16 when he was sentenced, was given 23 years behind bars.
Maasdorp was again arrested in September this year.
On Thursday, his lawyers indicated he wanted to enter into a plea agreement.
The National Prosecuting Authority’s spokesman, Eric Ntabazalila says: “I can confirm that the matter has been postponed to 2nd February 2016 for a Plea and Sentencing Agreement in terms of Section 105A.”
