Royal Enfield Introduces New Electric Bike Brand, Flying Flea
Royal Enfield has announced its entry into the electric vehicle market with the launch of a new EV brand, Flying Flea, introducing two urban-focused electric motorcycle models. Known for its iconic motorcycles, the company’s move into electric mobility marks a notable shift after more than 123 years in the industry.
Flying Flea’s first models, the Flying Flea C6 and Flying Flea S6, were showcased ahead of EICMA 2024 in Milan. Both models bring classic aesthetics and modern technology aimed at agile, city-based commuting. Inspired by the original “Flying Flea” motorcycle of the 1940s, Royal Enfield is tapping into its heritage with a contemporary EV twist. The original Flying Flea, developed during World War II for lightweight, versatile use, served as the inspiration for this new lineup, which Royal Enfield aims to make both accessible and functional for today’s urban riders.
Introducing Flying Flea C6 and S6
The Flying Flea C6, set for release in 2026, is a fully electric motorcycle designed for city mobility. Styled in the classic aesthetic typical of Royal Enfield, the C6 is engineered to provide a twist-and-go, user-friendly riding experience. The S6 offers a scrambler-styled option, appealing to riders who prioritize design and capability for urban environments.
Flying Flea motorcycles also incorporate connected features, with seamless connectivity, Over-The-Air (OTA) updates, and a proprietary Vehicle Control Unit (VCU) that allows extensive customization. With up to 200,000 different ride mode combinations, riders can personalize settings from throttle response to braking and regenerative features, catering to various road conditions and personal preferences.
The Technology Behind Flying Flea
Royal Enfield has dedicated significant resources to the development of its electric motorcycles. Over the past few years, the company has invested in an EV manufacturing plant in Chennai and partnered with Barcelona-based Stark Future, known for its off-road electric vehicles. Additionally, a team of more than 200 engineers in India and the UK contributed to the in-house design of core EV components, including custom software and battery management systems.
The Flying Flea C6’s design highlights include a forged aluminum frame that’s lightweight yet sturdy, along with a magnesium battery case for optimized cooling. A redesigned girder fork, reminiscent of Royal Enfield’s classic models, integrates with a flowing frame for a balance of vintage style and cutting-edge technology.
Key Features for Urban Commuters
Designed for urban riding, the Flying Flea models offer a range of features intended to simplify the daily commute. Lean-angle sensing ABS, twist-and-go acceleration, and built-in cruise control aim to provide a smooth, intuitive experience. Charging can be done via a standard domestic plug, making it accessible for most users.
