Testing of new electricity distribution centres under way

Enemalta has started final testing of a new distribution centre in Pembroke which will beef up power distribution in the area. 

The distribution centre is part of a three-year, €60m Network Reinforcement Project  which includes another three new distribution centres, major upgrades to other electricity distribution installations, the introduction of automation technologies and the addition of several high voltage cable connections between different nodes of the network. 

The Pembroke distribution centre will improve electricity services in St Julian’s, Swieqi, Pembroke, Madliena, Paceville, Ibrag and Maghtab. It will receive electricity from underground cables linked to Kappara 132/33 kV Distribution Centre.

It is expected to be energised during the first quarter of 2016.

Work is also in hand on the Manoel Island Distribution Centre which will consolidate electricity supply services to Msida, Ta’ Xbiex, Gzira, Manoel Island, Tignè, Sliema, and San Gwann, Enemalta said.

Cables are currently being laid  through Gżira, Manoel Island and Sliema to supply the distribution centre from the Kappara Distribution Centre. Testing   is also underway, so that it can be commissioned and...
