Second power station turbine being installed in Delimara
The second Siemens gas turbine for the new power station is currently being installed in Delimara as work on the new power station gathers pace.
The power station will have three SGT-800 gas turbines and a steam turbine that will be used in a combined cycle. The first is already in place and the third arrives on Sunday.
Works were hampered by bad weather last month, but they were now being speeded up, Electrogas officials said.
The 200-Megawatt station is split into four parts: the main generating plant, which will house the turbines, the floating gas storage unit – a specifically converted LNG tanker – the gasification unit, which will convert the liquidified fuel into a gas, and a large jetty connecting the structure to the shore.
The power station is due to be operational in the coming summer according to a revised timetable announced earlier this year.
