EUROPA LEAGUE - GROUP B: All square in Switzerland as Sion and Liverpool finish top two
Liverpool and FC Sion played out a 0-0 draw in their final Europa League group stage game on Thursday night.
It was a fairly tight affair at Stade Tourbillon with little in the way of goalscoring chances throughout as both sides progressed to the Round of 32 by finishing top and second in Group B respectively.
The Reds remained at the summit of the group after an uneventful clash in Switzerland, which would have pleased manager Jurgen Klopp, who thankfully copped no injuries on the night.
The best chance of the contest came early in the game but Divock Origi could not hit the target from close range when attempting to get on the end of Brad Smith's lovely ball from the left.
Again the two combined early in the second half but the Belgian was unable to beat Sion keeper Andris Vanin as both sides appeared happy to play out a draw.
The clean sheet was Liverpool's fifth under Klopp, who had Philippe Coutinho back on the bench and Jordan Henderson in the starting XI, while Sion will be over the moon after moving to the knockout stages of the competition after their first try at the group stage.
