28 Nigerian Universities Among Best In Africa
Professor Suleiman Bogoro, the Executive Secretary of the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFUND), has announced that 28 Nigerian universities have been ranked among the best higher education institutions in Africa.
Bogoro made this known at an interactive session with members of civil society organisations and representatives of the media which was organised by Partners for Electoral Reforms (PER) in Abuja.
The executive secretary said that TETFUND has made huge investment in higher education institutions across the country over the last four years.
“Four to five years ago, not a single Nigerian university was ranked among the top 100 in Africa, but today, we have 28 Nigerian universities among the best in the continent.
“I thank God that even the National Universities Commission (NUC) credit TETFUND for that progression,” he said.

According to him, TETFUND has established the Department of Research and Development in order to encourage the development of research and industries in the country.
“I am happy to work with staff that believe that education is the best avenue through which we can make Nigeria rise to more competitive level in the international community,” he added.
However, he urged civil society organisations to continue to push for electoral reform, noting that “if we get the electoral process correct, it is likely that this will move Nigeria forward and deepen our democracy.”
According to him, a lot of reforms have taken place between 2011 and 2015 which indicates that the country’s electoral system has improved.
He commended the convener of the interactive session for providing a platform that would assist in deepening democracy and the electoral process in the country.
