Don’t Join Any Protests, Demonstrations – Abuja Police Warns Nigerians
The Federal Capital Territory police command has warned members of the public against participating in any disturbances of the public peace in the form of protests, demonstrations and other disturbances.
The warning is contained in a statement issued by the police command’s spokesman, assistant superintendent of police Anjuguri Manzah, on Thursday in Abuja.
According to the statement, the police command has observed a flagrant disregard of the law by individuals and groups that are holding protests and demonstrations in the territory.
It said that these actions have unfortunately created unwarranted tension and apprehension among law abiding citizens and the wider community in the territory.

In the statement, Manzah emphasized that the command would continue to act professionally in discharging its constitutionally assigned roles in line with international standards and the law.
“It is on this note that the command is making it clear that it will continue to be professional in discharging its constitutionally assigned roles in accordance with international best practices,” the statement says.
He also warned that the police command will not holster its weapons and allow some individuals or groups of people to tamper with the existing peace in the territory in case of further disturbances.
The statement further warned that any protest which would lead to the breakdown of law and order in the FCT would be dealt with swiftly and decisively and that all protests must be planned and held in accordance with the law.
The command also advised “any person or group of persons who wish to embark on any demonstration to notify the federal capital territory commissioner of police in writing.”
