On day one of his second term, President-elect Donald Trump promises to impose heavy tariffs on Canada and Mexico and increase tariffs on China as part of a pressure campaign to end the flow of illegal immigration and drugs crossing America’s northern and southern borders. However, those countries are the top suppliers of total imports in the United States, and economists warn the tariffs could spike consumer prices.
