The Apprentice 2015: Brett Butler-Smythe says Lord Sugar’s wonky finger means you never know if you’ve been fired
After surviving in the process for ten weeks, Brett Butler-Smythe was fired from the latest series of the Apprentice in a shocking episode which saw neither team sell a penny’s worth of product.
However, the unlucky business hopeful said that it’s never easy to tell if you’ve actually been fired or not – because of Lord Sugar’s wonky finger.
“We all know the process that goes on, and as soon as that finger’s been issued, that’s it, your fate’s done,” Brett said.
“He could literally just put his hand up and be like that – done, and you know that it’s all over and done with.
“He also does it on a little bit of a squint, and you actually think, is it still me you’re getting rid of or is it someone next to me?”
Brett also spoke about Lord Sugar’s “immense amount of power and dominance”, a respect that it seemed was mutual between the two businessmen.
Despite firing him, Lord Sugar reiterated to Butler-Smythe before he left the boardroom that he is “an honourable man”.
“I was like, er, oh, right, do I stop? Do I go back? Do I sit down?” Brett joked. “To leave like that was just brilliant.”
