Tabla maestro Zakir Hussain dies at the age of 73

In unfortunate news, tabla ustaad Zakir Hussain has passed away on December 15, 2024. Hussain was admitted to a hospital after he was unwell. He was taken to the ICU at a hospital in San Francisco. The maestro's friend and flautist Rakesh Chaurasia had updated the media when he was taken to the hospital.

As per the reports, Zakir Hussain has been dealing with blood pressure issues, his manager informed. For the past two weeks, he has had a heart-related problem.

Zakir Hussain was the older son of legendary table player Ustad Allah Rakha. Hussain followed his father's footsteps and made a name for himself in the music industry. He was respected and loved worldwide for his exceptional skills.

In 1988, Zakir was honoured with Padma Shri in 1988, Padma Bhushan in 2002, and Padma Vibhushan in 2023. The legendary artist had received five Grammy Awards, with three of them during the 66th Grammy Awards in 2024.
