Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, on Tuesday, December 29 2015 commiserated with the people of Nnewi and Chicason Group of Companies over the recent fire incident that claimed some lives on Christmas Eve in the community.
Ekweremadu on a sympathy visit to the Chairman of Chicason Group, Dr. A. C. Okafor, at the company’s office in Nnewi toured the scene of the incident.

“We are here to sympathise with you, to sympathise with the people of Nnewi, the people of Anambra, Nnewi business community and all the families affected by this disaster.
“For me, this is also a major setback for the business development, not only in Nnewi but the South East and the nation in general. But our major concern is the families of those who lost their loved ones. I would like to use this opportunity to condole them and to pray that God grant the souls of the deceased peaceful repose,” he said.Naij.com recalls that on Thursday, December 24, in the industrial town of Nnewi, Anambra state over 100 people were reportedly burnt to death.
The explosion occurred at Chikason Group gas plant in Nnewi just few hours to Christmas.
According to an eyewitness, the incident started at about 11am and was caused by an explosion that happened because a truck discharged its contents without waiting for the mandatory cooling time. At the same time, customers were said to be refilling their gas cylinders.
