Zaria: Shi’ite Leader Reacts To Allegations Of Human Rights Abuse & Impunity

Abdulmumi Giwa, one of the leaders of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria, has reacted to allegations of human rights abuse levelled against their members by residents of Zaria, Kaduna state.

Sheikh El-Zakzaky is being accused of running a parallel government for over 20 years in Zaria.

Speaking in an interview on Channels TV on Tuesday, December 29, Giwa stressed that the allegation made by the Gyullesu elders was a propaganda sponsored by the government.

According to the Shi’ite leader, the government is using false claims to justify the killings of innocent members of the sect and to distract the public attention from the recent incident in Zaria.

Giwa said that Sheikh Ibrahim Zakzaky, the leader of the Shi’ite movement, had lived with residents of Gyallesu community in Zaria happily, despite attempts by security operatives to cause disharmony at various times.

“The Islamic Movement of Nigeria does not recognise the corporate entity of Nigeria. The group is not registered. They operate above the law and they get direct foreign aid,” he said.
