Jogger's 3-hour gorge rescue

A jogger was involved in a three hour dramatic rescue after she fell and broke her ankle at Kloof Gorge.

Durban - A jogger was involved in a three hour dramatic rescue after she fell and broke her ankle at Kloof Gorge in KwaZulu-Natal on Tuesday evening.

Lungi Dlamini was jogging when she fell on a trail at around 5:30pm. She phoned her husband Thabo who immediately called paramedics for help. "She came down for a jog and called me to say that she had fallen and that I needed to get help," Thabo said.

Rescue teams finally located her after 8pm, 3km down the gorge where she was stabilised before being transported back up the gorge.

Rescue teams took an arduous two hours to transport the patient to safety, taking regular brakes to make sure that she was comfortable.

The combined rescue operation involved Gillits Fire Department, RescueTech, EMRS, ER24, Police Search and Rescue and a Trauma doctor from Albert Luthuli Hospital
