If you've never been in New York City's Times Square on New Year's Eve, you've probably at least seen the usually frigid, heavily policed mayhem on TV, especially when the sparkling ball drops during the final countdown to the New Year. In the video below, CNN reminds us all that Jan. 1 strikes outside of the Big Apple as well, and other cities and towns drop their own strange objects to ring in the New Year. The six slowly descending objects that CNN has picked out are each more interesting than a giant Waterford Crystal ball, lovely as it is. And the celebrations in Flagstaff and Key West look more fun than Midtown Manhattan on Dec. 31, too. Watch below.
