New Year's party at pubs along VIP Road in Kolkata to end at 1am

Even as the city gears up to party the night away on December 31, the Bidhannagar and Barrackpore Police have read the riot act to the pubs and restaurants dotting VIP Road, Dum Dum and Kalyani Expressway. The police pointed out that given the history of brawls and streetfights around these new pubs that have mushroomed in the eastern suburbs, they did not want to allow bars to stay open beyond 1am as that would only "give troublemakers more excuse"
