Berlin (dpa) - The last 20 soldiers from a 300-strong unit deployed by Germany in southern Turkey to assist a NATO mission against Syrian rockets arrived home on Wednesday.The remaining troops arrived at a military airport in Cologne, a spokesman for the German air force said, marking the end of Germany‘s involvement in the Patriot missile campaign.The NATO military alliance has stationed Patriot missiles in Turkey since 2013 to thwart attacks from neighbouring Syria. Only one Spanish battery remains there after Germany and the United States pulled out their missiles.The German government decided to withdraw its supporting troops from their base in the city of Kahramanmaras in August after assessing that the threat had subsided in the region.A vessel carrying more than 200 aircraft and Patriot missile launchers has already left for Germany from the port of Iskenderun and is expected to arrive on January 6, a military spokeswoman said.Germany will continue to offer support to Turkey as part of the international alliance in the form of AWACS (Airborne Early Warning and Control System) surveillance planes.
