Cape Town - A R50 000 reward is being offered for information on a cash-in-transit heist that took place in Mitchells Plain on Monday.

The SBV van, carrying an unknown amount of cash, was at the BP garage at the Promenade Mall in AZ Berman Driver to refill an ATM.

The driver was held up at gunpoint and forced to drive to an abandoned house in Luvuyo Crescent in Khayelitsha.

Police spokesperson Captain FC van Wyk said there were eight men waiting for the van. The driver’s gun was taken from him and the robbers took all the cash containers, loading them into two cars before speeding off.

SBV Services Group chief executive Grant Dunnington said yesterday the reward was for the successful conviction of the perpetrators.

Dunnington would not disclose the amount stolen by the robbers, saying the matter was under investigation.

“We are warning perpetrators that we have zero tolerance for criminal activities and that there will be dire consequences for individuals intending to execute any criminal activity that would place our employees as well as the public at risk,” Dunnington added.

People can contact SBV’s Early Warning Robbery Hotline on 083 408 7029 or call Crime Line on 32211.
