Hijab Ban Is Against Allah’s Directive And Will Be Resisted By Muslims – Abuja Muslim Forum

More reactions have continued to follow suggestions of the banning of the hijab by the government if bombings do not cease by the second quarter of next year, 2016.

Observing at the maiden presidential media chat that recent bombings by Boko Haram were carried out by suicide bombers dressed in the Muslim traditional clothing called the hijab , President Buhari said: “Banning hijab is not an option, but if these attacks continues, hijab has to be banned.”

Reacting to the suggested ban by the president, the Abuja Muslim Forum described the idea as a wrong step that is unacceptable to Muslims.

In a chat with Naij.com, yesterday, December 30, the president of the Forum, Mr. Luqman Amoo said banning the hijab will be counter-productive since there is other loose clothing worn by women and men alike that is used to perpetuate evil and are yet to be banned.

Mr Amoo wondered why the hijab should be banned when other equipment and materials used at one time or the other to cause havoc have not been banned.

“The idea of a likely ban on the use of Hijab is a wrong step, unacceptable to the Muslims, and counter-productive. The use of Hijab by Muslim women is a religious directive from Allah hence the ban of it is unacceptable and will be vehemently opposed by the Muslims.

“This is likely to result into another set of crises. If by Hijab you mean the loose gown and the head covering of the Muslim woman’s dress, what about other loose clothing worn by women and men alike? Will these also be banned?” Mr Amoo wondered.

Speaking further on the issue, Mr Amoo said: “It is equally easy to conceal bombs under babanriga (agbada) and suits worn by men, will the government go ahead and also ban the wearing of these clothes?

“There was a time the security believes that jeeps were being used for bombing and kidnapping, did the government ban the use of jeeps? The same with tinted cars. Rather than carry out proper scrutiny before issuing tinted permit, the Nigeria police force made a lot of money from the exercise.”

Urging the federal government and security agencies to do more of intelligence gathering, the president of the group questioned why the government of Buhari is treating the symptoms rather than the causes of terrorism.

“You don’t cut off the head because of headache. Treating the symptoms can never be the cure to an ailment. Government and the security agencies should do more on intelligence gathering. The government in collaboration with non-governmental organizations (NGOs), and faith-based organizations (FBOs) should intensify public awareness on security consciousness.”

Advising the government to look at other options of fighting insurgency, the Muslim Forum warned that a ban on the use of the hijab will be vehemently opposed by Muslims.

“Ban on the use of hijab will be a serious violation of the right of whoever decides to wear it and it is going to be opposed by the Muslims. I advise the government to look at other options of fighting insurgency than banning the use of hijab,” Amoo concluded.

In other news, the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) has urged President Buhari to diversify the economy in 2016 by partnering with state governments to invest in the distinct economic advantages and potentials of every state.

In a press release signed and made available to Naij.com by the national publicity secretary of the party, Mr Ifeanacho Oguejiofor, the party said diversifying the economy is the only route to providing massive job opportunities for unemployed youths.
