Syrian army launches assault against rebels near border with Israel

BEIRUT (Reuters) - The Syrian army and allied militias launched an offensive in the Golan Heights on Thursday, in what rebels said was part of a major assault to regain ground in southern Syria the government had lost over the last three years.
