One empire brought curtains down on another

It was after the Battle of Buxar in 1764 and the subsequent win of the British East India Company therein that the Imperialist force started making inroads to Awadh. On every nawab that rose to the throne of Awadh soon after, the company forced a treaty. The Treaty of 1801, between the Company and Awadh’s fifth ruler, Nawab Saadat Ali Khan, however, proved to be a turning point for the Company as well as rulers of Awadh.
