Turkey forecasts 2030 completion for trans- Armenia route, US role  highlighted

0

ArmInfo. Turkey expects the route through southern Armenia to be fully operational by 2030 and continues to use the term "corridor."

According to media reports, Turkish Transport and Infrastructure  Minister Abdulkadir Uraloglu, in an interview with Anadolu Agency,  noted that Azerbaijan is continuing work on the so-called "Zangezur  Corridor." He added that there is unfinished work in Nakhchivan,  which the Azerbaijani side will probably start this year.

The Minister also emphasized the US participation in the construction  of this route. According to Abdulkadir Uraloglu, the Turkish side  expects progress in this direction this year and added that it could  be operational by 2030.

The Meghri route is a proposed transport route approximately 40 km  long through Armenia's Syunik Province, which would establish  transport links between the western regions of Azerbaijan and its  exclave, the Nakhichevan Autonomous Republic. The opening of  transport routes in the region was outlined in point 9 of the  trilateral statement signed on November 9, 2020, by the leaders of  Russia, Armenia, and Azerbaijan. However, Azerbaijan is attempting to  distort the essence of these agreements and secure an  extraterritorial corridor.
