Internal fragility: International legal expert says Armenia`s democracy is threatened from within

ArmInfo. Democracy in Armenia is threatened not from without, but from within, as highlighted in a video statement by international lawyer Robert  Amsterdam, who represents the interests of arrested businessman and  philanthropist Samvel Karapetyan, leader of the Strong Armenia party.

According to him, while the international community continues to  support the administration of Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, within  Armenia itself there is a blatant violation of the rule of law, a  relentless campaign against the church, and political persecution of  the Strong Armenia party members. The lawyer believes that the  greatest threat to free and fair elections may come from within  Armenia itself, from the Pashinyan's administration, imposing  arbitrary and harsh control over the country's citizens on a daily  basis.
