Ambode, Mimiko, attend burial ceremony of former presidential candidate (photos)
It was a gathering of the high and mighty in the sleepy town of Epe, when the late legal icon, elder statesman and founder of Nigeria Advanced Party, Dr Tunji Braithwaite, was laid to rest at the Reverend Braithwaite Memorial Church, Papa Epe, Lagos.
The burial ceremony for the renowned activist who passed on Monday, March 28, kicked off with a service of songs at Yard 158, Oregun street, Ikeja on Tuesday, April 26, while the Christian wake keep took place at his Victoria Island residence on Wednesday, April 27.

The Bishop of Lagos Anglican Diocese, Most Revd. Dr Adebola Ademowo, in his sermon, described the late activist as a living legend, adding that the plus of Braithwaite was more than his minus. He also said testimonies show that Braithwaite led an impactful life.
Dignitaries present at funeral include Lagos state governor, Akinwunmi Ambode, former deputy governor of Lagos state Femi Pedro, Ondo state governor, Olusegun Mimiko, deputy governor of Ogun state, Chief Mrs Yetunde Onanuga, chairperson and publisher of The Guardian newspaper, Maiden Ibru.
Others include former minister of state for petroleum resources, Henry Ajumogobia, Senator Ben Obi, Pa Ayo Adebanjo.

The octogenarian died at St. Nicholas hospital early at the age of 82. Braithwaite was born in 1933, the youngest son of eight children. He was educated at the prestigious C.M.S Grammar School, entering the school’s Preparatory Section in 1946 and completing his education there in 1953.
He proceeded to sit for his A Levels at the London University at Kennington College in 1955 and enrolled in 1957/58 as a Law student at the Council of Legal Education, London. He was admitted into Lincoln’s Inn that same year and graduated as a barrister in 1960.
The late Braithwaite married his childhood sweetheart; Grace S. Falade in 1956 while they were undergraduates. They have 5 children and many grandchildren.
