Whatever the president’s motivations for canceling their G20 meeting, Washington is breathing a sigh of relief. “It could have been another Helsinki,” a former ambassador to Ukraine says. “If we can’t get a meeting with an American president who is going to stand up and push on Putin . . . maybe it is better to cancel the meeting.”
