Bexar County sheriff Javier Salazar alleged that the group of asylum-seekers were lured by a paid Venezuelan migrant who falsely promised them employment, housing, and legal papers upon arrival. “When you’re playing with human lives,” he said, “that does tend to bother me quite a bit.”
