Hawker murder trial postponed

The trial of four people accused of killing Mozambican hawker Emmanuel Sithole was postponed to allow for the submission of further evidence.

Johannesburg – The trial of four people accused of killing Mozambican hawker Emmanuel Sithole was postponed in the Johannesburg Regional Court on Monday.

Defence lawyer Tshege Ntake said the matter was postponed to September 10 to allow for the submission of further evidence.

Mthinto Bhengu, Sizwe Mngomezulu, Sifundi Mzimela and a 17-year-old youth have been charged with murder and assault with grievous bodily harm relating to the attack on Sithole. The incident happened on April 18 in Alexandra, north of Johannesburg.

Photographs of Sithole, 35, being `stabbed on a pavement were first published in the Sunday Times as a wave of xenophobic attacks swept South Africa earlier this year.

The accused have all pleaded not guilty to the charges against them.
