Yerevan and Baku reach agreement on cessation of hostilities on border – Security Council Secretary
YEREVAN, September 15. /ARKA/. Armenia and Azerbaijan have agreed to cease fire on the border as of 8 p.m. September 14, Secretary of Armenia’s Security Council Armen Grigoryan said in an interview with the Public Television of Armenia. He said the agreement was achieved with the involvement of the international community.
"We hope that Azerbaijan will abide by this ceasefire," he said.
On a spontaneous rally in front of the Armenian parliament building in Yerevan, with participants protesting the signing of some kind of agreement between Armenia and Azerbaijan that Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan announced about earlier on Wednesday afternoon in parliament, Grigoryan said that no document exists.
"There is nothing on the negotiating table. Everything that was on the negotiating table was made public," he said, adding that the rally was "organized by the fifth column" to weaken Armenia's statehood.
Grigoryan said the main goal of this war was to put pressure on Armenia.
"The main objective is the issue of sovereignty. They want to destroy Armenia as a state, and Azerbaijan participates in it with great pleasure. Some people (in Armenia) are also involved," he said.
At the same time, the Secretary of the Security Council noted that thanks to the army it was possible to prevent the implementation of a larger plan.
"And because the battlefield failed to accomplish what was planned, naturally processes began within Armenia," he said.
Speaking during a government Q&A session in parliament on Wednesday, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said he was ready to sign some documents that could make people call him traitor. After the rally began, Pashinyan said that "no document has been signed and no document is being prepared for signing."
Rallies began spontaneously in Yerevan on Wednesday evening demanding the resignation of the government. People have gathered outside the government and parliament buildings. Protesters expressed their disagreement with the policy of the authorities, which they accuse of disregarding the interests of Armenia and Nagorno-Karabakh.
Around midnight on September 13, the armed forces of Azerbaijan launched a large-scale attack in the southern and southeastern directions of the Republic of Armenia, encroaching on the territorial integrity of Armenia. The aggression was carried out with the use of artillery, mortars and UAVs, including not only in the Armenia-Azerbaijan bordering area, but also in the areas of Sotk, Vardenis, Goris, Kapan, Artanish and Ishkhanasar settlements and their civilian infrastructure of Gegharkunik, Vayots Dzor and Syunik regions. As of today, the Armenian side has 105 victims.-0-
