Security forces search apartment of Komi deputy Viktor Vorobyov, labeled as foreign agent
The search at Viktor Vorobyov’s home is connected to a criminal case involving the financing of extremist activities (Article 282.3 of the Russian Criminal Code). A "7x7" source claims that the case was initiated against the politician’s brother, Ilya Vorobyov, who is currently abroad. The "Komi Is S" Telegram channel reported that his apartment in Moscow was also searched.
Based on information in possession of "7x7," Ilya Vorobyov is accused of transferring funds to Alexei Navalny’s Anti-Corruption Foundation* in 2021–2022. Viktor Vorobyov's status in the case has not yet been disclosed.
The Ministry of Justice added Viktor Vorobyov to the foreign agents register in April 2022 due to "foreign influence," after he signed an appeal in support of lawyers labeled as foreign agents. He became the first deputy in Russia to receive this designation.
In April 2024, Vorobyov stepped down as leader of the CPRF faction in the Komi State Council. If his foreign agent status is not lifted, he may lose his mandate in November, according to a new law passed by the State Duma.
