Cargo transportation in Armenia drops 11.7% over nine months, while passenger transportation rises 19.8%

YEREVAN, November 8. /ARKA/. The total volume of cargo transportation in Armenia reached over 12 million tons in January-September 2024, marking an 11.7% decrease compared to the same period in 2023. Meanwhile, total passenger transportation exceeded 162.9 million people, reflecting a 19.8% increase, according to the National Statistical Committee./pp

In the first nine months of this year, over 9.6 million tons were transported by road (a 7.9% decline compared to January-September 2023), over 1.2 million tons by main pipelines (a 4.9% decline), over 1 million tons by rail (a 40.1% decline), and 28,000 tons by air (a 13.8% increase)./pp

Some 132.6 million people were transported by road (a 21.9% increase), 25.7 million by electric transport (a 13.4% increase), 4.2 million by air (a 0.8% decrease), and 436,400 by rail (a 6.9% increase)./pp

Also,nbsp;nbsp;Armenia recorded 3,060 road accidents, a 9.5% decrease compared to 2023. Road accidents resulted in 243 fatalities (a 12% decrease) and 4,359 injuries (a 9.4% decrease)./pp

In January-September 2024, revenue from postal and courier services exceeded 15.2 billion drams, marking a 2.1% increase compared to the same period in 2023 ($1 = 387.23 drams). -0-/p
