Medvedev received a warning for an altercation with a spectator at the Australian Open
Russia's top-ranked player Daniil Medvedev made a rude remark to a fan who interfered with him with his shouting during his second-round match against Lerner Thien of the United States at the Australian Open, Sport-Express reported on January 16.
The Russian led 3-1 against the 19-year-old American, but then lost five games in a row and lost the first set (3:6). Afterward, with the score at 5-3 and 40-0 in Tien's favor, Medvedev heard a spectator shout from the stands.
"Now <...> you will be at my place," he replied loudly.
In response, another fan shouted in Russian, "That's right!".
Earlier, on Jan. 14, Medvedev broke his racket on the net during a first-round match at the Australian Open 2025 in Melbourne and damaged his camera. During the third set, Medvedev was trailing his opponent from Thailand, Kasidit Samrei, 3-5. After losing on Samrei's serve, the Russian tennis player approached the net, on which he started hitting with his racket, as a result of which he broke it. He also broke the camera attached to the net.
