Politico reported on the invitation of right-wing EU politicians to Trump's inauguration

A number of right-wing European politicians were invited to the inauguration of U.S. President-elect Donald Trump, Politico reported on Jan. 16.

"While Europe's centrist mainstream has been sidelined - European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen was conspicuously not invited - plenty of space has been given to the far right," the piece said.

The ceremony is expected to be attended by Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, former Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki, head of the British party Reform UK Nigel Farage, former presidential candidate in France and leader of the right-wing party "Reconquista" Eric Zemmour, as well as the leader of the extreme right-wing nationalist party of Belgium "Flemish interest" Tom Van Grieken. In addition, Argentine President Javier Milay will also attend.

The authors expressed the opinion that Trump can hardly be called a supporter of traditional inaugurations, which, as a rule, do not involve the participation of foreign leaders and prime ministers.

The inauguration ceremony of the President-elect of the United States will be held on January 20.

Earlier in the day, NBC News reported that former U.S. presidents Bill Clinton, George W. Bush Jr. and Barack Obama would attend Trump's swearing-in ceremony, but not the subsequent inaugural dinner. An invitation was also sent to former first lady Hillary Clinton, but she also does not plan to attend.

The day before, it became known that Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban would not attend Trump's inauguration ceremony because of a planned speech at the conference.

The election of the 47th President of the United States took place on November 5, 2024. In the national vote, Trump received 51% of the vote, and the candidate from the Democrats Kamala Harris - 47.4%.
