The Kremlin spoke about the forthcoming signing of the agreement on stratpartnership between Russia and Iran
The treaty on strategic partnership between Russia and Iran, which is expected to be signed by Russian leader Vladimir Putin and his Iranian counterpart Massoud Pezeshkian in the Kremlin on January 17, reflects the entry of bilateral relations to a new level. This was reported by the Kremlin press service on January 16.
In addition, the agreement fixes the legal framework for further development of Russian-Iranian ties in all areas for the long term. At the same time, the leaders of the countries prioritize the development of trade and economic relations.
In particular, it is specified that in the past year, according to the results of January-October, trade turnover increased by 15.5% to $3.77 billion. The share of national currencies in mutual settlements between Russia and Iran exceeds 96%.
It is expected that during the talks on Friday, January 17, Putin and Pezeshkian may discuss the situation in Syria, the Palestinian-Israeli conflict zone, as well as the situation in the Transcaucasus and the Iranian nuclear program.
The Kremlin press service said on January 13 that the Iranian president will arrive in Moscow on January 17 on an official visit. The signing of a comprehensive strategic partnership agreement is scheduled to follow these talks.
Iranian Ambassador to Russia Kazem Jalali said on January 14 that this agreement is concluded for a period of 20 years. In addition, the diplomat said a day earlier that the agreement contains 47 articles and covers all areas of bilateral cooperation. During the preparation of the document, most attention was paid to balance, respect for the territorial integrity of states and the principles of sovereignty.
At the same time, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi clarified on January 15 that the treaty on comprehensive partnership between Russia and the Islamic Republic does not include the creation of a military alliance between the two countries, although there are provisions on security and defense.
