"Stop letting these social media sites give you tips and tricks because sometimes it’s not going to work, OK?"
With airlines squeezing passengers more and more with fees for checked and even carry-on baggage, people have started coming up with creative ways to maximize their luggage capacity, often turning to hacks on social media. However, some of these methods are more successful than others, as evidenced by one would-be traveler who never made it past the gate.
The incident was recently documented by a TikTok user who witnessed a man attempting to make it past Frontier Airlines gate agents with a bunch of his personal belongings stuffed into a pillowcase, claiming that he was simply bringing a pillow onto his flight. Long story short, he wasn't fooling anyone, and after refusing to pay an additional baggage fee, was ultimately escorted away by airport security.
"Stop letting these social media sites give you tips and tricks because sometimes it’s not going to work, OK?" narrated user NatashaOrganic, in the video posted to TikTok earlier this month. "This dude was trying to take in a pillowcase full of clothing and other items, which he is stating is simply just a pillowcase. And the dude was saying, 'Bro. Everybody can see it's not a freaking pillow, come on.'"
"They gave him the chance to pay for it. He waited all the way up until they closed the doors to be like, ‘OK, I’ll pay for it now,'" she continued, adding that he then tried to "bogart" his way onto the boarding bridge. "And they were like, ‘Bro, back away. We gave you your chance and you didn’t pay for it.'"

"And they ended up calling the cops on him. And he ended up getting escorted out. So, stop listening to the internet," she added.
While we certainly admire his moxie, in the end, no one is going to win an argument with a gate agent. But while baggage fees have become increasingly predatory in recent years, there is relief on the way. The Biden administration recently announced new rules that will force airlines to become transparent when it comes to ancillary fees, as well as requiring airlines to provide automatic refunds when a flight is canceled or significantly delayed.
The rollout will begin in the coming months and years, so hopefully passengers won't have to go to such great and ridiculous lengths in the future.
