Aston Villa player ratings as two Argentina stars lead the way to victory over AFC Bournemouth

0

The latest fan-voted Aston Villa player ratings are in after Sunday’s 4-0 Premier League victory against Bournemouth at Villa Park.

Villa supporters submitted their player ratings via our AVF ratings form, which we’ll be inviting you to do via our social media throughout the 2025/26 season.

The process is simple. We’ll share a link at full time to ask fans to give every Villa player a score out of 10 – without a zero because we’re grown-ups and so are you – before adding in my own ratings from Aston Villa Review and taking an average.

These average scores will be used for Power Rankings each month and, ultimately, to crown a Player of the Season.

Villa v Bournemouth player ratings

Emiliano Martínez – 8.5 – MOTM

Safe as houses, one penalty stop and an incredible save to tip over a deflected shot with Villa under increasing pressure. A wonderful performance.

Matty Cash – 7.0

Cash was reliable defensively against a team who know where the goal is, and made things happen with the ball on the right. His beautifully flighted free kick led to the first of Villa’s four goals.

Ezri Konsa – 6.8

Konsa was Konsa for the most part. He had enough in reserve when Bournemouth stepped up the pressure in the second half, when his defending close to Villa’s goal was needed.

Pau Torres – 7.3

I thought Konsa was slightly the better of Villa’s two central defenders but Torres was fine too and a clean sheet speaks for itself. He did have a chance to score and chose a doomed tee-up for Ollie Watkins instead.

Lucas Digne – 7.3

Dealt with Antoine Semenyo, defended tenaciously and played his part in possession too. Digne was rewarded with an assist for Villa’s third goal, a Ross Barkley header from a corner.

Amadou Onana – 7.3

Another all-action display. One early lapse aside, Onana didn’t put a foot wrong with or without the ball and scored a brilliant goal to make it 2-0.

Boubacar Kamara – 7.8

Kamara was booked for covering his midfield partner’s error but put in a typically excellent Kamara performance out of possession. He hit Villa’s first shot and a vital component in transitional play.

John McGinn – 7.5

Physical, vicious on the press and regularly contributing high up the pitch with his back to goal. McGinn justifies Villa finding any which way to get him on the field.

Emi Buendía – 8.3

Fabulous first half. Fabulous free kick. Fabulous work ethic. Fabulous attitude. Fabulous without the ball. Fabulous player with a richly deserved international call-up.

Morgan Rogers – 8.3

Another really good showing from a vital player finding his form again. Rogers’ new contract was announced after the match and he’s going to be rewarded handsomely, but his transfer fee is starting to look a bit silly.

Ollie Watkins – 6.2

Watkins’ movement was much better and he looked like he was back at it. The shots have started to come his way and on another day he hits the net with these ones. He’s getting there.

Substitutes

Ross Barkley – 7.2

Villa’s reliable substitute when they’re in the lead and the man tasked with heading home from the corner routine that delivered Villa’s third goal.

Youri Tielemans – 7.1

Came off the bench and looked, again, like he’d never been away. Struck the shot that clipped Donyell Malen for the fourth goal.

Jadon Sancho – 5.5

Unable to make much of an impact off the left flank but would have earned another assist if Tielemans’ shot had gone straight in.

Lamare Bogarde – 6.7

Followed a very decent performance on Thursday with more proof that he can get up to speed in a game without much issue, albeit Villa were home and hosed by the time he came on.

Donyell Malen – 7.0

Replaced Watkins with ten minutes and stoppage time to go and scored by accident. What a world.

Evann Guessand – 5.9

Another late substitute. Didn’t score by accident.
