Cybercrime surge in Nepal: Internet fraud cases double, resources lag behind

KATHMANDU, Nepal - According to data from Nepal's Cyber Bureau, 9,013 cybercrime cases were registered during the fiscal year 2022-23. Of these, 1,835 were linked to internet fraud, accounting for 20.35 percent of the incidents.

In 2023-24, the number more than doubled, reaching 19,730. The increase in online fraud incidents is as troubling, with 4,112 cases reported, accounting for 20.84 percent of the total.<
