But did you know that Refugee was not going to be Abhishek Bachchan's debut in the film industry? The actor had signed up for a film called Samjhauta Express with Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra. In the movie, AB was supposed to play a Pakistani terrorist burning in the rage for revenge against India. Abhishek was looking forward to the project and even prepped for a year by maintaining a diary about his character.
In an interview with Shiv Talwar, Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra revealed that Abhishek's character was going to seek revenge from India for falsely framing his father as a terrorist. The Guru actor's character is killed in the end. Mehra reveals that the industry felt that playing a Pakistani terrorist in his debut film would be like playing with fire for the actor. Hence, the shoot was called off three months before it was supposed to start.
Earlier, Abhishek Bachchan also got candid with Galatta Plus about his project with Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra. The Happy New Year actor recalled telling his father, Amitabh Bachchan, about the movie. However, Big B was not fond of the story and called it a 'bakwas' script and told his son to get out of the project. However, Abhishek and Rakeysh later collaborated in 2009 for the film Delhi 6. The film also stars Sonam Kapoor, Aditi Rao Hydari, Rishi Kapoor, Supriya Pathak, and others.
