Rajkummar Rao calls out those glorifying Shah Rukh Khan's Devdas and having problem with Animal; 'Director isn't asking anyone to become like him'
Many discussions have emerged about the movie Animal, with some people claiming that it glorifies toxic masculinity. Similarly, Shah Rukh Khan's portrayal of Devdas in Devdas has faced scrutiny over the years for being an alcoholic who doesn't value the women who love him. Both films continue to face criticism despite their immense popularity and love. Sandeep Reddy Vanga directed the former, which features Ranbir Kapoor in the lead role. On the other hand, the SRK starrer is helmed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali and also stars Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Madhuri Dixit. Rajkummar Rao recently shared his views on the criticism these movies keep receiving.
On a podcast with Raj Shamani, Stree 2 actor Rajkummar Rao expressed that if someone wants to become like Devdas after watching the film, the problem lies with them. According to Rao, the film presents the story of a man who suffers and eventually dies due to his actions. The director isn't encouraging anyone to follow in Devdas's footsteps. The actor stated that the film is based on a book and presents a character story. The director has never shown that, despite everything, he is living well and has a lot of money.
When discussing Ranbir Kapoor's Animal, Rajkummar Rao mentioned that he thoroughly enjoyed watching the film. However, Raj also said that he might have had some issues with certain scenes, but overall, he enjoyed the experience. Rajkummar said he loved Ranbir Kapoor's performance in it and called it "mind-blowing." Rajkummar also highlighted that a film critic pointed out that the movie was titled Animal and not Adarsh Purush because the director intended to show the story of an animal.
In the past few months, several celebrities have shared how they also had issues with Ranbir Kapoor's Animal. However, many loved it, and the movie was also a big hit at the box office. Along with Ranbir, the Sandeep Reddy Vanga starrer also stars Anil Kapoor, Bobby Deol, Rashmika Mandanna, and Triptii Dimri.
