Actor Salman Khan is in legal hot water after receiving a notice from a Kota consumer court for allegedly misleading pan masala commercials. The actor and the pan masala brand he sponsored became the target of a complaint for their ads. Senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and Rajasthan High Court lawyer Inder Mohan Singh Honey filed the suit, claiming that the ads mislead customers and requesting a ban.

What is the complaint all about?

Honey filed a lawsuit in the Kota Consumer Court alleging that Rajshree Pan Masala's manufacturer and its brand ambassador, actor Salman Khan, had engaged in deceptive advertising by claiming that the product included "saffron-infused cardamom" and "saffron-infused pan masala."

Saffron, which costs around Rs 4 lakh per kilogram, cannot be an ingredient in a product priced at Rs 5, according to the petitioner, hence the claims cannot be accurate. According to the lawsuit, statements such as these encourage youngsters to eat pan masala, which is a major cause of oral cancer.

What did the petitioner say?

"Salman Khan is a role model for many people. We have filed a complaint against it in the Kota Consumer Court, and notices have been issued for a hearing. Celebrities or film stars in other countries don't even promote cold drinks, but they are promoting tobacco and pan masala. I urge them not to spread the wrong message to the youth, as pan masala is one of the leading causes of mouth cancer," the petitioner told ANI.

The Kota Consumer Court has sent warnings to the actor and requested a formal response in regards to the allegation. The manufacturing business and the actor have not yet responded, according to ANI. November 27 is the date of the next hearing.

Salman Khan has made appearances in Rajshree Elaichi advertisements. The firm also makes pan masala, although the actor has not appeared in any advertisements for it.
