Fishing groups demand to keep fisheries' subsidy negotiations out of WTO

Ahead of the General Council meeting in Geneva, small-scale fisher groups from many countries, including India, Indonesia, and Bangladesh, have demanded that the WTO should not negotiate fisheries subsidies as the ongoing talks are 'unfair and unbalanced'. Members of the Geneva-based 166-member World Trade Organisation (WTO) after finalising a deal on curbing harmful subsidies on illegal, unreported and unregulated fishing, are now discussing ways to curb these support measures that are contributing to overcapacity and overfishing (OCOF). EU's carbon tax mechanism expected to cost India 0.05% of GDP: Report

The European Union's Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) will impose additional 25 per cent tax on energy-intensive goods exported from India to the EU, a new report said on Wednesday. This tax burden would represent 0.05 per cent of India's GDP, according to the report titled "The Global South's response to a changing trade regime in the era of climate change" by independent think tank Centre for Science and Environment (CSE). Hathway Cable & Datacom Ltd -- provider of cable and internet services -- on Wednesday reported a decline of 18.1 per cent in consolidated net profit to Rs 18.32 crore for the June quarter. The company had posted a net profit of Rs 22.36 crore in the April-June period a year ago, according to a regulatory filing from Hathway Cable, a firm owned by the Reliance Industries Group.
