Yen choppy after BoJ rate hike

The Japanese yen was much choppy against the US dollar after the Bank of Japan decided to raise interest rates at the end of its two-day monetary policy meeting and unveiled a detailed plan to taper its huge bond-buying programme. The BOJ said its board decided to raise the overnight call rate target to 0.25% from 0-0.1% in a 7-2 vote and decided on a quantitative tightening (QT) plan that would roughly halve monthly bond buying to 3 trillion yen ($19.63 billion), from the current 6 trillion yen, as of January-March 2026. Delhi govt to bring law to regulate coaching centres, says Atishi

The Delhi government will bring a law to regulate coaching centres in the city, cabinet minister Atishi said on Wednesday, days after three IAS aspirants drowned in the flooded basement of an institute in Old Rajinder Nagar. Addressing a press conference, the minister said the government will constitute a committee comprising government officials and students from different coaching hubs to frame the law.
