The ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 gets underway from May 30 in UK. Hosts England are one of the favourites to lift the trophy this time around. However, despite being in the finals three times and making it to the semi-finals further two times more, they are yet to taste success in the grandest stage of cricket. But with gun batting line-up and an able leader in Eoin Morgan, this could be England’s World Cup.

England’s leading run-getter in the world cups is Graham Gooch with 897 runs in 21 matches at 44.85 with eight half centuries and one century. He’s followed by Ian Bell (718) at 35.90 and Allan Lamb (656) at 50.40 at second and third spot respectively in the list.
Kevin Pietersen has two centuries at the world cup – a tournament record for England followed and is the only English player with more than one hundred. Wicket-keeper batsman Graeme Fowler, who played in the 1983 World Cup, has the best average for an England batsman at the world cup with an average of 72.00 seven matches. He scored 360 runs hitting four centuries and remained unbeaten twice in the tournament. Keith Fletcher follows with at second with 69.00 at second followed by Dennis Amiss (60.75)
David Gower, who played in two world cups, has hit the most no. of sixes for England with nine followed by Andrew Flintoff (8) and Lamb (8).
Gooch has the record for most fours hit in the world cup by an England player with 80 hits to the fence followed by Bell (62) and Alec Stewart (58).
Andrew Strauss’ 158 against India in the famous tied match in the 2011 world cup is the highest by an Englishman at the event. Amiss with 137 vs India at Lord’s in 1975 and Fletcher with 131 vs New Zealand at Nottingham in 1975 complete the top-three.
Sir Ian Botham leads the wicket charts with 30 scalps in 22 matches spread across four editions. He averages 25.40 and boasts of an economy of 3.43. Next on the list is Phil DeFreitas with 29 wickets in 22 matches followed by James Anderson who took 27 wickets in 25 matches.
Botham also holds the record for most wickets in an edition – 16 wickets at 19.12 at the 1992 World Cup. Flintoff with 14 wickets (WC 2007) and Vic Marks with 13 wickets (WC 1983) occupy the second and third spot respectively
With 5/39 vs Sri Lanka at Taunton in 1983, Marks has the best bowling figures in world cup for England. Tim Bresnan emulated Mark’s five-wicket haul in the 2011 edition with 5/48 against India at Bangalore. Steve Finn is the only other England bowler to take a five-wicket haul at the World Cup when he returned 5/71 against Australia at Melbourne in 2015.
John Snow has the best bowling average of 10.83 among England bowlers with 10 overs being the minimum cut-off. Tony Greig (14.83) and Mike Hendrick (14.90) are at the second and third position respectively.
Steve Finn has the best strike-rate among England bowlers with 21.7 in four matches followed by Chris Jordan (24.5) and Eddie Hemmings (27.4)
Stewart, with 23 dismissals (21 catches, 2 stumpings) leads the wicketkeeping charts followed by Ian Gould 12 (11 catches and one stumping) and Jos Buttler’s 8 (all catches)
For a non-keeper, Paul Collingwood has taken the most catches – 13.
Amiss and Fletcher combined to add 176 runs for the second wicket against India at Lord’s Perth in 1975 which is the highest ever partnership for any wicket by an England pair at the quadrennial tourney.
James Anderson and Alec Stewart have 25 world cup appearances each which is the most for England in the world cup history. Both of them played in four world cups.
Overall, England have played 72 matches, winning 41, losing 29, one ending in a tie and one producing no result.
338/8 vs India is England’s highest team total. Their biggest victory margin (in terms of runs) is against India at Lord’s in 1975 – 202 runs.
