India captain Virat Kohli called it correctly at the coin toss and opted to bat first against Bangladesh at Edgbaston, Birmingham in match 40 of ICC Cricket World Cup 2019.
India, hurting after suffering their first defeat of the ongoing tournament against England, need a win to confirm a last-four spot. Taking learnings from their loss in a high-scoring chase at the same venue on Sunday, they have made two changes. A wrist-spinner in Kuldeep Yadav has been dropped and pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar walks in. Another change has been made in Dinesh Karthik who gets his first match of the world cup 2019 in place of Kedar Jadhav.
Bangladesh desperately need to win this match to keep their semis hope alive – a defeat will end their hopes. Mashrafe Mortaza, the Bangladesh captain, said they have also made a couple of changes to their playing XI. Mehidy Hasan and Mahmudullah Riyad have been dropped and their places have been taken by Rubel Hossain and Sabbir Rahman.
