At Mohali’s PCA stadium, India will take on Afghanistan in the first Twenty20 International today. India and Afghanistan are trying to narrow down their final 15 players for the T20 World Cup 2024, which will be held in the West Indies and the USA in June of this year. This is the opening game of a three-game series. Rashid Khan’s exclusion from the Twenty20 International series has already dealt a serious blow to Afghanistan. The famous legspinner had lower back surgery, and is still recuperating. Despite going with the team, he will not play in the series against India.

On the other hand, star Inda batter Virat Kohli will also be missing in the 1st T20I at least due to personal reasons. India head coach Rahul Dravid had annouced a day before the game. While what that personal reason is, is unknown but it is also true that Janaury 11 is the birthday of his daughter Vamika.
After a break of over a year, Kohli and Rohit Sharma rejoined the T20 team. The last time we saw them was during an Indian T20 match during the 2022 World Cup semifinals. Although the BCCI has not yet issued a formal statement on the matter, Rohit will captain the team once again and lead them in the T20 World Cup in 2024.
Dravid announced at the pre-match press conference that Rohit and left-handed hitter Yashasvi Jaiswal will open for India. Shubman Gill, who bats third for India, is most likely to take over for Virat Kohli there. The favoured batter and wicketkeeper should be Sanju Samson, who would bat in the middle order.
We will undoubtedly start with Rohit and Jaiswal as of right now. But when you have a squad, you have to be willing to adjust and take any necessary action to best serve the team’s interests and increase our chances of success. Therefore, nothing is blocked. However, we’re particularly pleased with Jaiswal’s performance as our opener; he provides us with a left-right.
Rinku Singh and Tilak Varma, who are both anticipated to be in the starting lineup for the first Twenty20 international match, will be intriguing to watch throughout the series. The pace-bowling unit should consist of Avesh Khan, Arshdeep Singh, and Mukesh Kumar, with Kuldeep Yadav or Ravi Bishnoi being the only wrist spinner.
