Rahul Dravid, the head coach of Team India and a former captain, turned 51 yesterday, and the Indian cricket community sent him birthday greetings on social media. Although Dravid was raised in Bengaluru, Karnataka, he was born in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, in 1973.
Considered one of the most technically proficient batters of his era, Wisden included him among the top five cricketers of 2000. He was known as “The Wall” because of his unrelenting focus and austere defensive strategy.
Early in his career, Dravid was regarded as a Test batsman but went on to break records in ODI and T20 franchise cricket. Together with Sourav Ganguly, Rahul Dravid made his India Test debut at Lord’s in 1996 and amassed 95 runs in a standout partnership. Earlier that year, he played his first One-Day International in Singapore against Sri Lanka.
Dravid scored 13288 runs in 164 tests, including 36 hundreds, with an average of 52.31 and a peak score of 270. In addition, he led India from 2005 to 2007, leading the team to victories in both the Test series in England and South Africa.

The right-hander amassed 10889 runs in 344 One-Day Internationals (ODIs) between 1996 and 2011, with 12 centuries and 83 fifties. In 50 overs of cricket, he is the only batter to have been a member of two triple-century partnerships. His best score was 153.
In the Indian Premier League, he captained the Rajasthan Royals and Royal Challengers Bangalore teams.
He turned 51, and the Indian cricket fraternity celebrated by sending him heartfelt tweets.
